Inject-able dermal fillers are quickly replacing many popular forms of facial cosmetic surgery. For many patients, they provide the same results as surgical procedures, but in a fraction of the time. These procedures are growing in popularity because they are very affordable, and there is little to no pain involved.
Dermal fillers are inject-able gels derived from natural sources, lab created products, or a combination of both. Fillers include gels made of hyaluronic acid, synthetic polylactic acid, natural animal collagen, or even fat harvested from the body of the patient. Fillers are much safer, and they provide superior results. A doctor injects the substance into an area of skin on the face to erase lines, smooth away acne scars, and reverse sagging.
There are many advantages to dermal fillers. They do not leave scars, and there is zero recovery time, unlike the major operations they are replacing. Many fillers stimulate new, natural collagen. Most are temporary, needing to be re-injected every 6 to 12 months, although some provide permanent results.
Face-lifts are still one of the most requested plastic surgery procedures. The recovery time for a face-lift can range from weeks to months. Through dermal filler treatments, a patient can go into a doctor’s office and have the appearance of a face-lift within an hour. The inject-able material is placed in the nasolabial folds and “marionette” lines around the mouth. The result is a fuller, younger appearance almost instantly.
Rhinoplasty, can now be performed in many patients with nothing more than a small injection. Large bumps on the bridge of the nose disappear when the substance is injected on the bridge above or below the bump (or both), and the end result is a straight appearance to the nose.
Under-eye blepharoplasty can be replaced with filler injections. The wrinkles and dark circles under the eyes can usually be corrected with a dermal filler. Oftentimes, the appearance of black circles or bags is actually not what it appears to be. Instead, the tired, aged appearance is caused by a thinning of the skin in the area referred to as the tear trough. The furrow creates a creepy texture to the flesh, as well as casting a dark shadow under the eye creating the illusion of a bag.
By injecting a dermal filler into the space under the eye, the skin evens out. The new, flatter surface does not cast a shadow, so the circles vanish. The skin is pulled taught, thus removing the fine lines. The patient is left bag-free, looking young and refreshed.
Dermal fillers are an excellent alternative form of facial cosmetic surgery. Since they do not require operations, the treatments are very inexpensive in comparison. Not everyone is a good candidate for injections. Consult with a cosmetic surgeon to determine which procedure is the most appropriate for each individual case. For those who are good candidates, fillers offer a much easier way for doctors to offer their patients the same results as invasive surgical procedures, but now it is fast, painless, and affordable.
