For those who are planning a wedding on a more modest budget an informal style of bridal dress is perhaps best. The advantage of taking this route is that it gives you that much more freedom of what style of dress you can wear. You may decide that you would like to try a shorter style of dress if you are having a wedding in the summer and it may also give you the opportunity to experiment with different colours and patterns. You also have the option of wearing a hat, which would otherwise not be suitable for formal gowns so you can simply disregard trains and veils altogether.
As with all other types of fashion, styles of wedding dresses have also changed immensely over the past 20-30 years. Whereas high necks and puffy sleeves were once popular 30 years ago, you will find that most common designs are strapless. The ball gown skirts of yesteryear have given way to the more elegant flowing designs that create more graceful, flowing lines on the bride. In recent years the popularity of wedding hats has waned somewhat, with an increasing trend being for ladies to wear elegant hair clips or flowers to informal and semi-formal weddings.
